I recently purchased a 2017 GTI that was previously in an accident. The headlights were replaced with aftermarket units that aren't compatible with the original lighting package. I'm wondering if there are any options for replacing the headlights with OEM parts or compatible aftermarket replacements.

that’s a bummer! I had a similar issue with my old Jetta after an accident. I had to rush since it is illegal to drive without headlights. OEM replacements are definitely the safest bet if you want everything to work as intended, but yeah, they can cost a fortune. Since they're really from the brand manufacturer. I’ve heard good things about Morimoto for aftermarket options, they’re solid and usually work well with OEM wiring. Worth a look! and maybe ask a car shop if it's compatible.

If the previous owner messed with the wiring or coding to add some lighting that didn’t come stock, you could hit up a recycled parts shop for used units - way cheaper.

Yeah, it depends on what the previous owner messed with. If they did a DIY job, you might be able to find used parts from a junkyard. But if you need new ones, be prepared to spend a pretty penny. Those things ain't cheap.

Hey! You can find the original bulb specs in the manual, including details for all bulbs, headlights, taillights, turn signals, interior lights, and more. Refer to the manual for the exact wattage, size, and type to ensure you're replacing them with the correct ones.
