Looks like the Golf GTI Hybrid won’t be available in the US

I think after VW did with their clean diesel they are being more cautious. I could be wrong.

In my opinion, they are aware of how competitive the car industry is in the US. They understand that with their level of development and technology installed in their vehicles, entering the US market is risky, and knowing Americans they are especially picky when it comes to cars that they drive. They prefer cars that have been around for a very long time to even consider it as a brand that is worth being loyal to just like Ford and Chevy.

According to an article (https://www.thedrive.com/news/vw-is...-selling-a-hybrid-gti-gte-in-the-us-right-now), when asked why VW wasn't bringing the GTE to the US, VW basically said "too expensive, not enough buyers." Apparently, it costs a lot of money to get the car ready for the US market, and VW doesn't think enough people will buy it to make it worth their while.
Do you think the GTE would be a hit in the U.S. if the price were more competitive, or is the hybrid market just not ready yet?

Not surprised. VW always hesitates to bring cool variants to the US. First, it was the Scirocco, then the Arteon Shooting Brake, and now the GTE. It’s the same story: 'too expensive, not enough buyers.' But honestly, I wonder if that’s an excuse and they just don’t want to cannibalize GTI sales.
